Fandoms Meme

[livejournal.com profile] samena challenged me to do this.

The meme and questions: Comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find three fandoms you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!

01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

And as for me:

01: The Hound of the Baskervilles. Although I'd read some of the Sherlock Holmes stories before that. My mother had a fancy edition of the Adventures and Memoirs which I read, and being a child, I'd skipped over the introduction, so I didn't know that Holmes came back after Reichenbach Falls. Then I found the Hound in the library. On Halloween, the year I was twelve, I finished my trick or treating and settled down for a nice read with candy and a flashlight. I got as far as "Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound," when an ambulance went by, sirens blaring, and every dog in the neighborhood began to howl. I finished the book under the bed.
02: I keep coming back to it, no matter how far I stray or for how long.
03: The Hound of the Baskervilles. See above. And as for movies, I think I'll always be fond of Murder by Decree, because its such a lovely way of looking at the older Holmes and Watson.
04: Yup. Fanfiction (even though I'm struggling with it at the moment) and discussion mostly. I have no talent for graphics or art.
05: I'm rather looking forward to the influx of people from the movie this Christmas. I know some of the fallout will be wretched, but there are bound to be some truly lovely things as well.

01: I stumbled across it one night after I should have been in bed and fell in love with Mike Gambit. Hey, I was what... eighteen? nineteen?
02: I go through bursts of wild enthusiasm, but I haven't left and I won't.
03: "Dirtier by the Dozen".
04: A bit of fanfic, a bit of discussion. I'm betaing a piece for the best writer in the very tiny fandom at the moment.
05: Oh, please let there be more people! I need fanfic!

01: I read the book the first year I became a librarian and loved it. Especially Sophie, who is a marvelous character.
02: Hmm. I grabbed the latest book in hardback the moment I saw it and danced right there in the bookstore, so I'm definitely still in. I don't think I really leave fandoms.
03: The original book and the movie vie for the lead, although they are very different in some essential ways. The movie definitely rekindled my love for the books, though.
04: Not a whole lot. A few drabbles, and as I said, quick investment in the books when I see them.
05: I corrupt the children into reading the books every chance I get. And I keep passing the DVD over to the teens, too.

Were you aware that there is a Diana Wynne Jones mailing list? It's been going for some years and often gets into some very good discussions. Other authors' work gets mentioned as well.

(This is the header from my last copy of the Digest. One can also subscribe to individual mailings. I think there are archives online, if you want to look at it first.)

Hmmm. That's a thought. Although my inbox is already a form of torment.

If you want to do the meme, how about
Star Wars
Harry Potter
and Oz

?

Oh, Didn't much care about the meme. But have been at least peripherally connected with all three. More than peripherally with HP. But I remember early Trekdom, and have connections in Oz fandom.

Hmm. Tricky.

Holmes
Trek
and, since I don't see tags for another "fandom" per se, how about
poetry

?

You are correct; these are the only two :)
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
SH: liked the stories since I was a child; great escape literature
ST: liked the ST:TOS reruns on TV; and my husband is a fan
Poetry: always liked it since I was little

02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

Yes, I'm sure I will stay to all three.

03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?

SH: REDH, BLU, SCAN, FINA, DYIN,several others

ST: many of the TOS and TNG episodes, most of DS9

Poetry: several of my favourites are posted in my LJ. Many other from 19th and 20th century Russian and Soviet poets--Pushkin, Lermontov, Esenin, Tsvetayeva...
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

SH: Yes :) Read and (much to my surprise) now also write fanfic :)

ST: read fanfic; haven't felt inspired to write anything:)

Poetry: can't write any :)
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

Absolutely yes to all three! ;)

Cheers,
Cat

Ooh, is there Howl fanfic out there???
And oooh, is there anotehr book in the series???

Okay, I'm commenting.

How does one narrow it down to just three fandoms with you, o prolific one?
