movie drabble

The Price of Power

The order has come.

An army must be built worthy of Mordor, and nothing can stand in its way, not even the trees which are the pride of Isengard. Trees I have nourished from seed and sapling. Trees I have conversed with in the long slow speech of the Ents. But trees are not an army, and an army I must have, weaponed and armored.

The trees are strong, my orcs tell me. Their roots go deep. They cry out to me, asking “why” in deep, bewildered tones as they fall.

The forges must be fueled.

“Rip them all down.”

Thank you. I had the DVD in, and when I glanced over, Saruman was huddled into his chair after he'd just been playing with the palintir and for a moment I felt sorry for him, and then wondered why...

Oh. Wow. That's incredible.

Thank you... The credit (or blame!) should probably go to Christopher Lee, though. I was watching him again and saw the whole thing nearly at once.

Sheesh! I read this without realizing it was a drabble, and thought it was a poetic slam at a new development going up in your area! *adjusts brainpan* Nice!

Thank you! I really should get back to drabbling. No one expects them anymore, and I'm not really surprised.

Oh, wow. This just grabbed me unawares and wrenched my heart around.

*offers wrench to replace heart*

Thanks!

This nearly makes me cry. Mistress, I bow to thee. Thank God you're drabbling again!

Well, this one insisted. Hopefully there'll be more. May be movieverse for a bit. I have a new big tv which lets me see hobbits that are more than two inches tall...

What a wonderful thing is a drabble from Rabidsamfan! You so seldom do movie-verse--but this is truly powerful!! Wow!

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I may do a few more... or toy around with that one I sort of began about Strider, Sam, Merry and Pippin after Arwen took Frodo off on Glorfindel's shiny white horse.

[identity profile] elycia.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. What a sobering thought, that Saruman could *hear* the trees' voices and still chose to destroy them--a remarkable testament to the vicious power of the Ring and its maker. Lovely, as your work always is. Thanks!

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. It's odd thinking about Gandalf and Saruman and how very long they've been in Middle Earth...

[identity profile] elasg.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, now THAT'S good! You are such a masterful drabbler, RSF... really astonishing!

Thank you! *polishes rusty halo*

Rrrrrrrrrrr!!!

I hate Saruman!

Oh. *glances around*

Sorry, it's a powerful one. Makes me forget meself. :D

[identity profile] rabidsamfan.livejournal.com 2006-05-15 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin*

I actually felt momentarily sorry for the old bugger... Not that it lasted!

Oh bless you!!!!!! I mean it. I've always wondered why Saruman looked so conflicted in that little moment as the orcs came in, asking "what orders from Mordor".... You answered my silent question -- so eloquently. Beautiful and haunting.

He does look shattered, doesn't he. I love Christopher Lee!

That almost made me cry!! *sniffs*
