rabidsamfan: samwise gamgee, I must see it through (Default)

This I gotta try:

The "Stump the Author" meme -- I gacked it from [livejournal.com profile] cara_chapel because it looks like fun.

A-- go to my LOTR fanfiction and pick out a line or two from one of my stories.
B-- I will respond with which story I think it's from.
C-- I'll write a scene (in this case, a ficlet of 100-400 words) for the LOTR characters of your choice with the plot point of your choice to anyone who stumps me.
D-- If I get more than ten responses, I will do the first ten ficlets who stump me.

Obviously, you'd do well to pick something challenging, but unless it's really unique, I'm going to say it should be more than five words.

Have at thee!

This should be not too difficult:

They heard the horns first, and ran to help fight, but by the time they reached the village the celebrations had begun.

Oh... and I would die to see a drabble or mini-ficlet with Bilbo and Lily. There is no romance required, of course. But Bilbo met Lily on the market and gave her the mirror as a gift for his 111th birthday - why did he do that?

Keep trying to stump me and I'll see what I can cook up. I enjoy writing Bilbo!

That's the Fell Winter. (I just reread it because you had translated it so nicely.) Try again! I'm sure you can stump me.

Okay, second attempt:

It shamed him to have stood helpless, or should have done had not the others stood equally frozen.

Oh, heck, what did I call that drabble? It's the one with Legolas at Moria.... Regret? Remorse? ...

Let's go with "Remorse" and you tell me if I got it right.

It's Reflection in the Dark (but the drabble was correct). Shall I try once more?

How about this?

If the rest was a dream, the water was real, and for the moment, that was all he cared to know.

That's from "Awake". Which chapter of BIGS had Bilbo giving Lily the mirror in it? I'm a little too frazzled today to go hunting, so you'll get your ficlet faster if you can aim me at what I need to know.

The first chapter, in the last third. Thank you!
