This I gotta try:

The "Stump the Author" meme -- I gacked it from [livejournal.com profile] cara_chapel because it looks like fun.

A-- go to my LOTR fanfiction and pick out a line or two from one of my stories.
B-- I will respond with which story I think it's from.
C-- I'll write a scene (in this case, a ficlet of 100-400 words) for the LOTR characters of your choice with the plot point of your choice to anyone who stumps me.
D-- If I get more than ten responses, I will do the first ten ficlets who stump me.

Obviously, you'd do well to pick something challenging, but unless it's really unique, I'm going to say it should be more than five words.

Have at thee!

Frodo smiled at him, a little curiously. “That was clever, Sam,” he said. “Whatever made you think of it?”

/s/instead/in spite , as the vi geeks would say.

This should be not too difficult:

They heard the horns first, and ran to help fight, but by the time they reached the village the celebrations had begun.

He’d tried wading into a stream and that was the most ninnyhammered idea he’d ever had in his life, but the water hadn’t been cold enough even in January.

Muahahahaha...

OK, I will!

But his hand reached out and Rosie was there to take it, and Frodo smiled at both of them.

"Now Frodo did laugh, but not unkindly."

Try this...

"He no longer needs a candle, not even when the moon is new"

R- (yes, it's me. ;)

"What's Yulefeast without a goose to share, Dad?" he'd ask me, if he were here.
:)

"Don't worry, they're probably just looking for something to eat. Did you check in the kitchen?

Now I am going for it...

Lovely. Just....well...perfectly in tune with Bill's larger story and also perfectly "young" Sam.

So did you get your ten ficlets yet, or can I play?

Oh! This is just wonderful. It sets such a sad but lovely mood, straight away. I just wanted to cry for Sam's grief. Smart boy to think of the Bagginses.

Bilbo's mother was a Took, you know.

I shall have a go at this game.
