Oh, come on! Catcalls at Watson? A gentleman doctor and known biographer of Sherlock Holmes vs even a "respectable" man like Merridew? I'll catcall them! (When IS this set? Because SIGN was first published in Feb of 1890.)

Even with his so-called clever lawyer the prosecution will be hard-pressed to prove murderous intent and they're fools if they try, even with British law "guilty before proven innocent." What I'm worried about is the lesser charge of vitriol-throwing.

And I'm also worried (and, yeah, excited) that Holmes will take it into his head to testify for Watson's behalf at the risk of his own health.
