He drives me nuts, you know, with his fads and his sulks, but I’d rather have him on a rescue with me than any other guy in the program I can think of. If Gage hesitates, there’s always a good reason. Most times he doesn’t hesitate at all. He just skinnies into some crumbling hole in the ground or a half-wrecked building like some kind of hare-brained superhero and gets to the patient while I’m still trying to figure out how to fit. Roy’s the best paramedic in the department – well, except for me of course – and that’s a good thing, except when he gets worried about something, he’s good at worrying too, if you follow me. And when he gets worried about something he’s bound and determined to do something about it. Which means that he’ll walk back into a building that’s fully involved if he thinks that there’s someone stuck inside, and that means that I’ve gotta get myself out of here before he does something stupid.

Joanne’ll never forgive me if I get him killed.
