Marilynn Miller made the same suggestion, that Sam ended up with long-term effects from helping doom Gollum. I found the idea interesting more than convincing, but I like to see every interesting idea explored by someone who does find it convincing.
On the other hand, maybe once he no longer had to protect Frodo he got less impervious.
Bursts of being happy, possible. Feeling like "everything is possible" strikes me as too much of a stretch. But, hey, it's your Frodo.
