Ah, Vicodin

Wake up. Tooth hurts. A different hurt now, but still hurts. In fact, whole side of face is sending messages of "what the blue blazes did you do to me and do I really have to move?" at brain.

Face dilemma:

If you don't eat, taking the vicodin will make you feel sick. This was proven conclusively last night when you took the pain med with just milk as a cushion.

If you do eat, the tooth will hurt much much worse while you're eating and the vicodin will still make you feel sick, but at least you'll have something in your stomach if you reach the point of heaving... and the tooth might not hurt as much for a while.

You know if your blood sugar hits basement you're asking for a headache, so not eating is not really an option.

Not taking the pain pill has a momentary attraction, and then you yawn and your cheekbone tries to secede.

*sighs*
*eats*
*takes stupid pill*

And people get addicted to this stuff?!

Ow again. Is there anything you can eat that requires no chewing at all? This sounds like an excuse for ice cream if there ever was one, as long as the cold doesn't hurt your tooth.

(Oh, and the answer to your previous question is: I will certainly try to be there! I haven't seen you in way too long. More soon.)

Ouch!

Do things like Ensure shakes work for you? Then you'd have something in your stomach that you wouldn't have to chew. Just a thought.

It's a good thought. But I'm finding that lying down with my eyes closed works best. (Just sitting up long enough to check my email for five minutes already has me sweaty and ready to lie down again.) I'll try getting to the store next time I get up.

Have bowls of soup before pill, something that needs no chewing---blend it if you have to. Use a straw and suck really gently, so you aren't moving your mouth much at all.

Goodness, I hope you can get your root canal soon so the pain will be gone!

Try eating super-soft things like soup, pudding, or yogurt before you take your pills, or even better, ice cream!

I'll swap you.

How about three days of pain that Anbesol and Vidocin don't even TOUCH. Plus a prescription for antibiotics that didn't get called in in time, so it was this morning before I got them picked up.

Went into dentist today full of Vicodin. Still in pain. When she tried to put the needle in to numb the tooth, she hit an inflamed area that had me trying to scream with a needle in my mouth. Embarrass myself because I'm literally in tears, it hurts so bad, I'm shaking like a leaf. Then the novocaine she put in doesn't work. I kid you not -- a whole needle full of the stuff and it doesn't ease the pain at all, nothing's even getting numb. X-ray shows nothing -- this is a tooth that already HAD a root canal in 2000. Second needle full of novocaine injected high up near the roots finally reduces things to a dull roar. Running a fever, getting the shakes so bad I can't control them on the way home (husband is driving, thank heavens).

All we can figure is that there's an infection waaaaay up in the bone near the root tips, lord knows why. If the antibiotics don't kill it, I have to go to the orthodontic surgeon to poke around in there and see what's going on.

So go ahead and whine as loud as you want to, you're not going to get anything but sympathy from this corner. Toothaches SUCK! Go give one to Holmes so you can transfer the bad ju-ju.

(Should I give one to Peter on the book tour? He's being a cranky little you-know-what anyway, it would serve him right. Maybe when he's home for Christmas and his mama gets to nag on him...)

Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch. I think you win. (Not that you want to!)

Did the dentist give you anything stronger than the vicodin? Or different? Percocet, maybe?

Peter definitely deserves a toothache which he sort of tolerated with anbesol and aspirin on the book tour and will finally take care of when he has mama to nag on him.

Hm. Holmes or Watson, Holmes or Watson. Decisions, decisions...

(My tooth is still sore, by the way. Not quite as touchy as its been, but definitely sore. I'm trying to talk myself into taking a pill so I can sleep the rest of the night...)

Holmes, definitely.

Toothaches are so flippin' UNDIGNIFIED, and he's so sure he can think his way out of the paper bag. Watson's more practical and a lot more used to physical pain, he's not going to let something as silly as pride stand in the way of getting the darn thing yanked out.

Down to a dull roar today, the antibiotics seem to be kicking in and ibuprofen is enough to make it semi-tolerable. No likum li'l tooth -- frowum away.
