Angst Galore!

The latest challenge at Watson's Woes has been to write an AU (in 3000 words or less!) where Mary doesn't die during the Hiatus -- whether that means she dies when Holmes is around, or doesn't die at all was left to us, but the requirement was to make it angsty, which resulted in this (posted first the comm, and here so I don't lose track of it.)
