I've been too airheaded to remember what I've read or where I read it and I've still got seven nominations to use up for the MEFAS. Anyone got a story they think didn't get the attention it
might have deserved?

ETA! It doesn't have to be recent. Just R rated or less, available on the 'net easily, and never nominated for a MEFA before.

Further ETA... Alas, now I've run out of time... But there are some great stories nominated over there. It's going to be a fun reading season!

The MEFA awards are in nomination season now. If you join you can nominate up to twenty stories -- including your own! I had a lot of fun reading the stories last year and discovered a lot of authors I hadn't known before. And because the "voting" is done by review, I got nice bennies even on the stories which didn't win anything more than some lovely comments.

http://www.mefawards.net/

Any story which hasn't been nominated before is eligible, not just the ones which were posted in the past year, so it's a good place to stir the coals...

"The Errand Lad" has been nominated for the "Cue the Orchestra Award" over at the GMAs...

well, at least people like it

*sigh*

After the operation, folks. I may have some brain cells to spare by then.

If you participated in the MEFAs or just hung around the edges, or you want to know more, take a gander at [livejournal.com profile] mefas. Right now it's post mortem season, so here's your chance to say what worked and didn't work for you or to ask questions.

Oh, and the banners just got posted at the main site yesterday. http://gabrielle.sytes.net/mefa/index.html and scroll down. The author banners link doesn't work yet, but the story ones seem to. And if you've got dialup and can't wait for all those images, drop me a comment and I'll see if I can't get the exact images you need with my DSL (between housecleanings, of course.)

The MEFA folks have started an LJ community http://www.livejournal.com/community/mefas/ to help facilitate discussion of what worked and didn't work this year. So if you have a question, or a comment, (or even a compliment) you might want to take a peek.

I really enjoyed the MEFAs, I must say, because the "comment based" aspect of the voting drove me to read more widely than I had before, and because I got some really wonderful comments on the stories which had been nominated, whether they won anything else or not -- and you know that gave me warm fuzzies. Next year I plan to do some nominating of my own!

I know there are people on my flist who aren't happy with the whole award thing, but I can't remember exactly who or I'd flock this so they couldn't see it, and I feel terribly guilty about that, but I really can't remember, so just,

please don't click on the link if you don't want to. )

Between spurts of housecleaning I've been trying to get myself to work on "The Errand Lad" and to prime the pump I've been reading and reviewing at the MEFAs, but it's a frustrating slog. I've pretty much worked through all of the stories which had no final reviews that I have the background to read, (someday I'll read the Silmarillion, but this is not that day) and now I'm skimming through drabbles and vignettes a lot, but I've just barely managed to read and review a tenth of the stories that got nominated.

Sometimes I look for authors I haven't reviewed yet, sometimes I wallow in old favorites (which are quick to compose reviews, for, I grant you!) Sometimes I search for "Sam" in the descriptions, although that gets me "same" too. *sigh* I never thought I'd suffer from a surfeit of Cormallen stories! But I keep coming back to it, although I should be getting for my sister's visit. I'm too lazy to cut and paste and count characters before I hit the "final" button and keep discovering that I shorted someone a point by fewer than ten characters, and I'm just hoping no one thinks it was deliberate.

I've discovered some lovely stuff, though. A story by Karri where Sam asks Legolas about Elven magic, drabbles that bring characters I hadn't considered to life, angles on Arwen that shed new light...

*sigh*

Oh, well... Just had a plotbunny bite for "The Errand Lad..." Got to go now...

Mostly by headaches... so I'm contemplating trying to use some of the insomniac hours to get some reviews done in the MEFA awards. If you've got a story nominated and I haven't reviewed it over there yet, let me know in the comments here and I'll try to manage something, even if it's just cut-n-pasting a comment I made earlier if you posted in a journal I read. I'll probably get back to really reading my flist once summer reading club is over and my body stops trying to see how many times I can refuse to take more ibuprofen than is good for me in a day.

The MEFA folks are looking for confirmation on some nominations.

Dreamflower has a list. I know some of you read my journal, although I'm too lazy to figure out which folks read hers too...

Don't have enough braincells to write tonight, but I can brag a little. One of my stories got nominated for two different categories of the Golden Mushrooms!

It's The Ringbearer and the Rose and it's made the list for Best Crybaby and Best Use of Rosie. Isn't that nice? Now I don't even care if I win, lol!
